First off I would like to say thank you for having such a great forum. These are great for the home handiman as well as the professional. I fall into the first category and need some advice.
I have a GE Side-by-side refrigerator. It is called a "Profile Performance" model and I didn't take the time to dig into the model number but I can if it is needed. Here is my story. LOL.
The water in my house comes from a well which taps into a wonderfully clear Florida aquifer. That means my water is absolutely wonderful. We don't get stains in the toilets and the water tastes better than bottled water. We are blessed. I purchased this refrigerator about 6 years ago and have never replaced the filter but my wife recently complained about the taste of the water coming out of the water from the fridge so I thought I would replace it.
I found Filtersfast and purchased the MXRC filter which said it replaced the FXRC. It came in and I went to install it. Two things ocurred:
1. I shut off the water line to the fridge and took the old filter out. It looked identical to the MXRC excetp the very top spout on the old filter had a cross on it and the MXRC did not. When I felt up into the hole the filter attached to I could feel a spring loaded nipple sticking down. It made sense to me that this cross would put that up and activate the water from flowing. I put the new filter in anyway and sure enough I had no water coming out of the fridge. I figured I may have the wrong filter so that is my first question.
2. I went ahead and put the old filter back in figuring I needed to find out what was going on and now no water is flowing to through the fridge. I obviously turned back on the water to the fridge.
Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
