Help needed on 2001 Whirlpool Gold...broken?

Hello everyone. i have a 2001 whirlpool side by side with the ultraease system. The light for a new filter has been on for months, so today I went to lowes and picked up the PUR filter for Kenmore and whirlpool systems.

I removed the grill on the front bottom and found a knob. there was no button on my know. I turned to the left, it didnt budge. i turned to the right, it didnt budge.

I pushed I pulled. Nothing.

Does anyone know how to get the filter out of this damn 2001 whirlpool?
