New Whirlpool Ice and Water Filter stuck

Replaced filter, followed directions on new filter as I had done in the past. However, even though I carefully aligned the filter and pushed it into its compartment, it stuck with about one-half inch still protruding. In trying to remove it to start over, I pulled on the plastic cap and broke it. How can I get a replacement plastic cap, please? And is it a necessary part while the filter is properly in place?

Without the replacement cap, it will be extremely difficult to pull the filter out of its place when time for the next filter change comes. We do sell the replacement caps and you can find one here: http://www.filtersfast.com/P-Whirlpo...-Cap-Black.asp. Hope that helps!
