The water filter on my Kenmore side by side frig - model # 106.59762990 is painfully slow. it also has been very slow - but is seems to have gotten worse. I put in a brand new filter and it makes no difference. Is there anything I can do?

How Slow?
Refrigerator dispensers using water filters typically run at a much slower flow rate than sink faucets. The typical rate given normal water pressure, a new filter, and no obstructions in the water line is up to 1/2 gallon per minute. Once the filter has been used for a while, that will decrease. Time how many seconds it takes to fill an 8 oz glass and then we can see how close to a normal flow rate you are.

That is slow
You are running at about 1/8 the speed that you should be with a new filter. Are you on city or well water? How old is your refrigerator? Their are a few possible problems to your situation.
1) Refrigerator Water pump
2) Scale Buildup
3) Water line going into refrigerator or water pressure to the refrigerator water line obstructed in some way (valve not fully open, water line kinked, etc.)

We are on city water. The refrigerator is about 6 years old. I am trying to give my husband a clear direction as to where to look for the problem, after I have eliminated any that I can check out. Where can I check the valves? I know to check for kinks, we'll have to roll out the frig, so that will require his help. I have acutally already looked for kinks where the tube runs to the freezer door. That part looks fine. But I could die of old age getting a large glass of water! This is driving me crazy! Thanks for all your help! I looked on an appliance parts website and a water pump was not listed as a part for my frig.Last edited by pattyaor; 05-05-2006, 08:33 AM.

Holy cow, over 30 seconds to fill an 8 oz. glass of water? Are you dehydrated by the time it's filled, lol? Refrigerator Water Filter systems are great, especially when using city water, but when those deposits build up, it's a nightmare. Out of curiosity, did you ever solve the problem?Last edited by Andy CWS; 10-27-2010, 04:59 AM.
