I am looking for some feedback on a system.
I currently have a whole house pre-sediment and carbon filtration system installed. Pelican PC1000 (No softener or de-scaler) just whole house filter.
I just completed a home watersafe drinking water test and below are the readings:
Bacteria - None (negative)
Lead - none (negative)
Nitrate - 5.0
Nitrite - less than .15
Ph - 8.5
LR (Hardness) - 120
Chlorine - 0
So, I have successfully removed VOC's and chlorine from my water which was my first concern but now I would like to safely remove the fluoride.
I believe there are two methods from my research.
(1) The first is reverse osmosis. I am concerned about highly acid and minerals removed from the drinking water. I have read a few of the posts here and read the debate. Any more recent opinions on the mineral replacement filters? I am also slightly concerned with the waste of an RO system and that it will also shorten the life of my whole house system. I am considering the Crystal Quest model. The Kinetico seems way over priced. Do any others have mineral cartridges that are possible add ons? Can you add one to any system? I am also slightly concerned with water pressure. Should I definitely consider an RO model with a pump?
Note: I do experience some issues with pressure. If we use two showers at once now with the added whole house system. One at a time is fine. I also have a fast fill option on my ice and water through my whirlpool refrig.
(2) The other option appears to be an actived alumina fluoride filter. Is there a concern here about adding alumina into the drinking water? If you use a two stage with carbon after the actived alumina filter will it safely remove any remnants? This seems easier, less expensive and I could just hook up prior to the ice maker and water line through the fridge.
