Why not post-carbon filtered water into tank?

This may be a silly question, but why are reverse osmosis tanks not placed after the final, post-carbon filter in an RO system (so membrane -> post-carbon filter -> tank -> faucet)? Instead, most systems place the post-carbon filter after the tank but before the faucet. (so membrace -> tank -> post-carbon filter -> faucet).

Is this due to the backpressure that is required against the membrane and the fact that either the post-carbon filter is one-way or that you would not want water to go in the opposite direction through a post-carbon filter?

I believe its purpos is to "clean-up" any bad taste that may have entered the water while sitting in the tank which has some sort of bladder.
