Sanitizing on start up

I had a plumber install my RO system today..It is a basic GE one from HD. I have filled and drained 3 times but did not do the bleach sanitize thing first. Is it absolutely necessary to do it before I use the system? I understand the need to sanitize when system has been used but I was hoping to avoid it at the start. Please advise. Thanks!
