  • prefilter clogging quickly

    Hello folks,

I've been have problems on and off with the Ro system for the last year or so. It is a whirlpool system from lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_129808-47429...sis&facetInfo=

It uses WHEERF pre and post filters, and a WHEERM RO membrane.

When if first bought the system, the pre filter would clog up very quickly. It would get to the point where the tank would not even be filled after a couple of weeks. I would replace the prefilter, it would work perfectly for 2-3 weeks, and then clog completely again. This happened 4-5 times. Then, an entire year went by with no issues at all, but recently, in the last month, I've had to replace the prefilter 3 times. This is getting pretty expensive and aggravating, and I'm not sure what to do.

Is this a common problem? I'm suspecting the filter is getting clogged with sediment? (these filters are completely seals so I can't see inside it). If so, is there some sort of inline sediment filter I can upstream of the RO system that doesn't cost me $25 to replace every time? Any other suggestions?

I appreciate the help, thank you.
