  • Kinetico VX Plus Deluxe - Modulator gone bad - Best Option?

    Hi all,

I've been using a Kinectico VX Plus Deluxe with a Quick-Flo tank for the past 9 years. It developed a problem recently and I had service visit from my local dealer (who sold me the system) and the tech said the modulator on top of the tank has gone bad. (I've came to the same conclusion reading older posts on this forum before the service call). I was provided pricing (in Canadian dollars) for 3 options:

    1. This was my suggestion after reading some of the old posts - revert the system to a simpler air bladder tank design. The deal quoted me $270 for this option (parts, labour and 13% sales taxes included).

    2. Replace with another Quick-Flo tank - $620 (all included)

    3. Trade in my system for a new K5 system - $1200 (all included)

The first two options do not carry any warranty - the new K5 will carry a new 10 year warranty.

The tech told me that since I've had the system for 9 years, it will be soon before I need to replace the membrane (another 400 if I replace the part, or 150 if they "rebuild" it) so Option 3 would be the best option from an economics point of view.

Which option will you pick if you were in my situation?

Lastly, I am considering putting in a generic RO air bladder tank ($60 on Amazon) with my own labour - basically a cheaper version of Option 1. I am handing and can do basic plumbing so I am sure I can do it. However, I am not having any luck finding installation instructions for my VX to properly hold the system up. I know some members have this document... can you share please if you do?

Thanks in advance for your input

Pro and con of replacing the WOW tank with a bladder: Pro = no more issues with the module, which was the biggest issue the unit had. Con = loss of the benefit of the WOW tanks delivery being consistent through the tank as opposed to an air bladder tank being good at first and then dying off as it goes. If you have the money, the K5 is worth the upgrade. It delivers and produces much faster and at a higher quality as far as TDS reduction goes.

Hi: I want to switch our quick flo tank to an air bladder tank to save money. How do I make the switch since the quick flo has so many connections on top of it?
      Thank you.
