  • Reverse Osmosis and Vitamin C

    Hello,

I want to remove chlorine from tap water, and have the following idea:

    (1) Treat water with ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

The reactions with chlorine are shown below:
    C5H5O5CH2OH + HOCl → C5H3O5CH2OH + HCl + H2O
(Ascorbic acid , Hypochlorous acid , Dehydroascorbic acid , Hydrochloric acid)

There will be more reactions with bounded chlorine and chloramines (I hope at least).

    (2) Next apply reverse osmosis to this to remove HCl and the other compounds to get pure water.

    My question was:
Does ist work, that is, will the membrans of the RO filter and not be damaged by HCl, ascorbic acid and the other compounds?
