  • Are Kinetico 9309A filters only good for 500 gallons?

    Greetings,

I have a Kinetico Drinking Water System Plus Deluxe RO system that works quite well. I just replace the 9309A prefilter and the 9307A MACGuard postfilter. The water comes from a well and through a whole house sediment filter and Kinetico water softener before supplying the RO system. I'm curious if I really need to be changing the prefilter every time I change the post filter. The set of them runs almost $200 so it would be nice to only change the prefilter every other time.... any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

All of the filters on the Kinetico units are rated to remove what they say they will for 500 gallons. That's why they have the shutdown feature on them. I'd recommend continuing to change it. Do you HAVE to if you are already prefiltering ahead of it for the whole house? Maybe not. But, that membrane in the system is what it's protecting....and, it's not cheap either if it gets messed up due to not changing that filter. So, it depends on which way you look at it. Just out of curiosity, are you having someone do the work for that $200. $200 is really high for just the filters.

From my local dealer, the prefilter is $80 and the postfilter $90. When you add $15 shipping and tax it's almost $200. Any suggestions on cheaper sources?

I googled "kinetico k5 filters" and the 7th and 8th result were to buy them online through a dealer and they were much cheaper there. Give it a go.
