  • Advice Please

    Hi:

I need to install a whole house solution asap. Water is municipal with TDS 400 ppm, high turbidity, terrible taste. My imaginary solution would dramatically reduce (or render harmless) the TDS issue, and meet ansi 42 & 53. Reverse osmosis is not an option (Northern CA). Traditional NA/K softeners not an option. Need minimum impact on GPM (2 1/2 baths). Will do install myself on 1" Cu pipe. Budget under $500. Thanks in advance!

To remove dissolved solids in the water there will need to be some sort of deionization resins or reverse osmosis. If those are not an option in your home, then sediment and carbon filtration will improve water clarity, taste, and other reduce many other contaminants.

      BBFS-222 (1” inlet/outlet): https://www.filtersfast.com/Pentek-B...er-Housing.asp

Stage 1: Dual Gradient Sediment Prefiltration
      Pentek DGD-2501-20

      Stage 2: Carbon radial flow
      Pentek RFC-20BB

Stage 3: Carbon Block filtration (0.5 micron)
      Pentek CBC20-BB

These filters and system has been tested and Certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material requirements only.

Thank you for these suggestions and help! The only additional question I have is how to best apply resin dionization. Without a traditional softener, I have found several filters that claim to do that, but I can't seem to find any that can handle anything near the 20 gpm flow rate (or whatever I really need). My conclusion is that I would need to find the best possible filter of this type then install 2 in parallel, as it's the only way I'm likely to get the flow rate and the dionization I need. Since these types of filters seem to be regularly employed by restaurants for water feeds into coffee makers, soda dispensers, etc. I trust they work as described (and am dubious of other technologies that haven't been widely accepted outside of the residential sector). I am assuming you sell these, so any part numbers (as above) would be helpful, or if you don't any that you think I should look into.

Thanks again for your detailed reply! I appreciate it and a look forward to installing my filter "array".
