  • filtering sediment + calcite with good flow

    Hi, all --

I have a calcite system to counter my periodically slightly-acidic water (which nonetheless will leave blue stains in sinks and toilets if the season is right). I had a 4x10 BigBlue but went up to a 4x20 to maintain water flow when that proved insufficient; these days I run a refillable carbon filter in the shortie. I'm still not terribly impressed with the flow, though.

What micron size filter to I need to catch the calcite that always comes through in suspension, and just how many gpm do I really need for a nice shower or to fill a lobster pot at the kitchen sink in what doesn't feel like forever?

    TIA & HAND

So, no softener to take the hardness back down to zero after the calcite unit? Also, what size and type of plumbing do you have? It may be a volume/supply issue and not filter related.

Nah... It's so marginally acidic that it's only marginally hardened, and otherwise it's awesome water. If I were all pvc/cpvc/pex instead of this high-quality copper, I wouldn't have any of this mess :-)/2

It's only 3/4 inch, but I get great flow when I bypass all of the treatment. I also have the pressure side cranked up to 75psi to get through all of the drag and then go down to 45psi on the house side.

      TIA again & HANW
