Why is this product not recomended for well water?

Thank you for your email. Because this filter is made of a cellulose media, it is not recommended with well water. Some bacteria that is commonly found in well water can actually attack and break down this media and can shorten the lifespan of the filter. If you are on a well and need that size filter (4 1/2 x 20"), I would recommend a filter with a synthetic type of media such as polypropylene.
