  • Have new house in Sac,Ca and looking into whole house filter

Just bought a new home in sacramento,ca and wanted to instal a whole house filter and maybe a sofetner. was curious what people in my area were using

If you are curious what people in your area are using, look in the Yellow Pages. The bigger the ad.......

Of course that doesn't mean it is the most efficient and gives the best service, it just may mean most people are using them.

Many people in CA, as most all other states, buy softeners from online dealers like me and either install them themselves or hire a plumber with some of their substantial savings. I suggest a correctly sized softener with the constant SFR (service flow rate) gpm required by your family size, number of bathrooms and type of fixtures, using a Clack WS-1 control valve.

So what and how much of it is in your water that you want to filter out and how hard is the water?

I am thinking of getting the pelican water filter and was curious do you replace the tank or filter media? Also i want to buy the filter now and add on the softner and uv later can you add piece by piece or do you have to buy everything at once?

Before anyone can suggest to you with any certainity, get an adequate water analysis including hardness, iron, chlorine, TDS at the very least. Get those and get back with us.

The Pelican and all other 'brands' using the same mineral in them do not soften water.

They are supposed to prevent the water from causing hardness scale.

They do not remove or reduce the hardness content of teh water.

In Aug 2007 I bought that type of equipment to test in my motor home, we live in it full time (since Oct 1, 2006) off grid mostly and have used it since then. It causes my Irish Spring 'soap' to suds a bit better ,same for shampoo and prevents some water spots but the water is nothing like a softened water from a water softener.

The mineral is VERY expensive and has a short 5 year life. It will not remove iron or manganese. I will not sell it.

If you have hard water, buy a softener based on its constant SFR gpm for your peak demand flow rate gpm, family size, number of bathrooms and the type of fixtures in them. If the SFR gpm of the volume of resin is not higher than the peak demand flow rate gpm, the softener can not remove all the hardness in your water.

I suggest a softener using the Clack WS-1 control valve.
