  • Pro Systems Whole House filter working too good? Black mold...

I've had a filter on the entire system for a few years.

Since then I have noticed the toilet tank water is moldy & black. I replaced the Hall bath toilet and I see the inside starting to get moldy.
The master is really bad and black mold is coming out around the rim of the bowl. Before you get any ideas.... we clean this bathroom often and are not messy people.

Recently I noticed one morning that when I spit my saliva way gray, almost black. I thought I just "saw" it and ignored it. A week or so later I spit in the sink and it was blackish. The water was running and I only got to see it for a second. Since then I have been scraping my tongue with a tongue scraper and its usually fine, but black often enough that I figured out what was causing it...I had a drink of water, in the bathroom, when I had been up at night. Those are the mornings that I find my tongue has black stuff on it.

Because of this I realized another detail...I drink from Nalgene bottles that I take to work. If I don't wash them often I get black mold in the "Cap Cap" replacement lid that I use on them. It screws on the large mouth bottle but has a secondary smaller, water bottle sized, cap on top. It is gray, non-BPA, plastic and the water only runs over it when I drink. When its upright it doesn't get wet. But after its gotten wet mold grows there. I have to run them in the dishwasher every night. I thought this was because of saliva and bacteria. Now, looking back, I think my water filter is a problem.

I'm begining to think that the municiple water is okay until I remove the chlorine, etc, and then the stuf in the water rots and molds. I'm guessing this doesn't happen if the chlorine is present because I've lived here for 9 years and never had mold issues.

In researching I found this forum, didn't see any threads like this, and hoped that someone would tell me that I am right, that I'm not imagining things, and give me some usefull advice.

I know that its not "bad" water because I've lived in this city my entire life and, other than chlorine, there has never been issues that have bothered me.

Anyone have any confirmnation for me? Please?

If there is a thread like this would someone please link me to it? Thanks In Advance

It certainly sounds like they have a mold issue. Mold grows in damp places and likely isn't coming from the filters.

But, by removing the chlorine has made It easier for the mold spores to grow in the environment.

You will likely need to keep bleach cleaning the mold, remove the filters that are removing chlorine and filter just your drinking water, and start using HEPA filter units around the house to filter the mold spores to break the cycle.

Not nuts but mold cant grow so fast in yr mouth and make u get black saliva . That was a god intuition you had , funny though.
Even funnier was the fact that I realized the icky in my mouth was from having slept after getting up and taking some Pepto Don't forget to brush again
