In any case, the good news is that I now know how to install the new timer when it arrives. I am pretty sure that this will resolve my softener problems.

Yeah he followed what you said by saying his list of things to do sounded right to you and it screwed him up. Had he done as I said he wouldn't have had the problem. So who helped who?
