  • Water stains but I have a water sofener which is fully working

Hi I have a Kenetico water sofener in my house, it gives great soft water but I still have water marks on my kettle and water stains on my bath and shower taps. Besides that I have no scale and when I test the water is says its perfectly soft. Can you help?

    What color are the stains?

The stains are limescale colour and do wipe off easily but dont know why they are there in the first place if all the scale is take out by the watersofener

        Hi Joe,

I tried to look up "limescale" and I got kind of mixed reviews on what color it is or can be. I saw it described as aqua, purple, and yellow. I understand that you think the stains may be from Hard Water, which can cause whitish scale deposits and stains, but since you say your water softener is fully working I'm trying to figure out (by the color) what else could be causing the stains.

If you really want to be sure the best thing you could do would be to test your water. Most water quality tests will test for multiple contaminents --- it would also be a good idea to get one that will tell you the Ph of your water. That way you could ensure that your softener is really working. Currenty we only sell one test kit, which does also test the PH of water.

The chances are the 'stains' you are experiencing are sodium residue from the softener. Depending on how high your hardness may be, you residue will vary.

One way to tell the difference between calcium and sodium scale is that sodium wipes away easily with a moist towel and calcium needs to scratched off when dry.
